Lucid Shakespeare for High School students is aimed at building self-confidence and encouraging self-expression through theater. This program focuses on developing these individual strengths while instructing the students on fundamental acting techniques using the plays of William Shakespeare.
We will work with local theater professionals who will train them in the areas of voice and breath, movement, and stage presence. Additionally, we will work on understanding, analyzing, and interpreting Shakespeare’s text as the group explores an individual work. The students will take an active roll in developing all aspects of our final production, giving them the opportunity to discover new talents and interests outside of the traditional classroom setting.
Instructor Adam Gutgsell has been working actively in Portland’s theater community for the past 15 years. He started his work with Children’s Theater of Maine where he learned all aspects of theatrical production and had a venue to directly apply that knowledge. He has since worked extensively with Good Theater and other companies including Mad Horse and Out of Cake. He also founded Lucid Stage Productions where he produced and directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth.Classes are $700 per student. Some financial assistance may be available.
